Josiane is a bilingual Film & TV writer, director, producer, who strongly believes in the use of media as a vector of change. Her versatility has allowed Josiane to hold a wide range of positions in Canada, Europe, South America, and Africa. These extraordinary life-changing experiences have fundamentally shaped her artistic journey, and she feels particularly drawn to issues related to social justice.
Name as one of Playback’s Magazine’s 10 talent to watch, in the past 5 years, Josiane has had the pleasure to write, direct & produce a variety of projects, including her documentaries Words Left Unspoken (Al Jazeera, CBC, TFO) , Tales of Ordinary fatphobia (NFB, Radio-Canada), Loud & Here (Hot Docs‘23) as well as 2 seasons of her debut short-form scripted series Ainsi va Manu/Hogtown (TV5 Monde, TFO, Radio-Canada).
Alumni of the TIFF Series Accelerator 2024, Josiane’s creative work received more than 50 nominations in national & international festivals, winning more than 20 awards, including 3x Best Series, 2x Best Screenplay & 5 times Best Director.
Season 1 of Ainsi va Manu also received 4 Gémeaux nominations and a Youth Media Alliance Awards of Excellence nomination for best inspirational youth series. Season 2 of Ainsi va Manu was nominated at the prestigious Kids Screen Awards and the 29th edition of the American Black Film Festival. Her Documentary Words Left Unspoken also received three nominations at the 2025 Canadian Screen Awards: best documentary, best writing and best directing. Josiane also co-wrote, co-directed and co-produced season 1 of the half-hour dramedy series Hotel Beyrouth, which premiered at the Cinemania film festival in 2024.
Josiane also wrote, produced and hosted the French episodes of Strong & Free, an Historica Canada Podcast Series about Canadian black history, which was selected as Amazon Music’s best podcast in 2022 & won the Gold Award for Best Podcast at the Digital Publishing Award.
Some of Josiane’s upcoming projects are her feature documentary Endo-Warriors and the feature narrative Which Way Home.
